Bread on Point Sourdough Classes

Bruny Island Wild are excited to be partnering with Christopher Watson to deliver Bread on Point – unique experiences focused on the wonders of sourdough bread.

Participate in the two hour Short Course or the full day Workshop. Immerse yourself – challenge yourself – discover the joy of sourdough baking in a truly stunning setting overlooking the D'Entrecasteau Channel at Dennes Point, Bruny Island.

Short Course (2 hr) Details

  • The Bread on Point Sourdough Short Course is a 2 hour class running between 10 am to 12 pm.

  • Try a range of sourdough loaves fresh from the oven.

  • See all stages of the sourdough process demonstrated in front of you. Ask questions, take notes, get set to improve your baking!

  • Leave with an easy to follow guide with key hints and tips and jar of starter.

Workshop (Full Day) Details

  • The Bread on Point Sourdough Workshop is a unique, hands-on, full day experience that will not disappoint. Classes run from 10 am to 4 pm.

  • Bake your own bread in the impressive wood fired oven in the Jetty CafΓ© Wood Room. This location is a hidden gem of Bruny Island.

  • Learn how to avoid the common pitfalls and craft world-class sourdough bread in your own home – consistently.

  • Suitable for beginners through to those wishing to get back into baking and hone their craft. All aspects of the sourdough process are covered – including how to schedule sourdough into your daily life.

  • Enjoy a relaxed and intimate learning environment with a maximum of 8 people per class. Learn from an experienced educator and sourdough devotee.

What is included in the full day Workshop?

  • Enjoy coffee/tea on arrival. Morning tea and lunch are also provided – all made from seasonal produce sourced locally.

  • Finish with a glass of Tasmanian wine paired with cheese and freshly baked sourdough bread.

  • All materials required for baking are provided. Leave with a loaf you have baked on the day, the comprehensive ~40 page Bread on Point guide, plus a range of other items to enhance your home baking experience.

  • Aprons are provided for use on the day. Alternatively, participants may purchase a Bread on Point apron from our online store below.

  • Given the nature of the course, we have a strict refund and cancelation policy – please see below and keep this in mind when placing your order.

We welcome enquiries via email, including those about running bespoke classes for your group of 4-8 people. Transit from Hobart via boat with Hobart Boat Charters can be arranged.

Class participants wishing to purchase a embroidered Bread on Point apron may also do this below – these will be available for collection on the day of the class (note all full day workshop participants will be provided an apron for use on the day).

Refund and cancelation policy

  • Given the bespoke and intimate nature of our sourdough classes, paid tickets and gift cards are strictly non-refundable.

  • Should you be unable to attend your chosen class, with at least 14-days notice you may exchange your booking for a gift card to be redeemed at a future date. Cancelations inside the 14-day period will result in the forfeit of your funds. Alternatively, you may choose to transfer your booking to a friend or relative – please advise us via email so we can update our list of expected participants.

  • Should we need to cancel a scheduled class for any reason, participants will be advised by email and will be given the option of a gift card or a full refund.
